Last weekend, my family and I took a trip to Mt Tamborine, a beautiful spot known for its lush rainforest, vibrant wildlife, and stunning views. We set out early, excited to explore the trails, take in the scenery, and spend a memorable day together in nature. The weather was perfect at first, with blue skies overhead and a gentle breeze. Armed with our backpacks, water bottles, and snacks, we were ready to make the most of the day.
Our first stop was the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk, where we meandered along elevated paths and bridges that offered sweeping views of the forest. My kids were absolutely fascinated by the unique plants, the vibrant birds that flitted through the trees, and the occasional sighting of a brush turkey or skink darting across the path. We then ventured onto the Curtis Falls track, a picturesque trail that leads to a beautiful waterfall cascading into a rock pool below. Standing there, with the sounds of the water rushing and the forest alive with bird songs, we all felt a deep connection to the beauty surrounding us.
We spent hours hiking and sightseeing, moving from one trail to another, marveling at the variety of plants and listening to the sounds of the rainforest. As we took in our last lookout point, we noticed clouds starting to gather. By the time we headed back to the car, the first raindrops had started to fall, and in just minutes, a heavy downpour set in.
Driving down a winding mountain road in the rain wasn’t our idea of a safe or relaxing end to the day. So, after a quick Google search for “Mt Tamborine accommodation,” we found Edges Lodges and quickly booked a spot at Bellbird Lodge. Little did we know, this would become one of the highlights of our trip.
When we arrived at Bellbird Lodge, we were instantly struck by its charm. Nestled within the rainforest, the lodge felt like a peaceful retreat, perfectly integrated into its natural surroundings. The rain continued to fall, creating a soothing rhythm against the roof, and the view from our windows was nothing short of magical. Mist drifted through the trees, and the entire landscape seemed to glow under the soft, filtered light of the rainy evening. It was as if we had stepped into another world, one of quiet beauty and calm.
Inside, the lodge was cozy and inviting, with warm lighting, comfortable furnishings, and everything we needed for a restful night. We quickly settled in, drying off and slipping into comfortable clothes. The kitchen had all the essentials, so we whipped up a quick, warm meal, and then snuggled up as a family. With the rain falling outside and the forest blanketed in mist, we felt cocooned in our own little sanctuary.
The kids, tired from the day’s adventures, soon drifted off to sleep, while my partner and I stayed up a little longer, listening to the rain and enjoying the stillness. The ambiance of the lodge, paired with the quiet power of the surrounding forest, created a sense of peace that felt like a rare gift. We were grateful for the unexpected turn of events that had brought us to this hidden gem.
Staying at Bellbird Lodge gave us more than just a dry place to rest; it gave us a chance to slow down and appreciate the simplicity of being together. Away from the distractions of daily life, we had time to connect, laugh, and enjoy the beauty of nature. The rain, which could have been an inconvenience, ended up being a blessing, enhancing the experience with its tranquil soundtrack and adding to the magic of our stay.
As we packed up the next morning, none of us felt quite ready to leave. Mt Tamborine had shown us its beauty through both sunshine and rain, and Bellbird Lodge had given us a cozy retreat that felt like home, if only for a night. It was a reminder of the unexpected joys that can come from embracing spontaneity and finding beauty even in the rain.
